Sally Potter talks through some key scenes from the beginning film and addresses the ideas behind the casting of Tilda Swinton and Quentin Crisp. This gives more of an overview but still gives insight on intertextuality.

The only item in the archive under the heading casting, however, it does not seem to work. It would have been interesting to see the reading of the role by Quentin Crisp in the early stages of pre production. Other items on the archive give more insight into his casting but it is a shame as would like to see Crisp at work.

Sally Potter's comments when responding to questions about the casting of Quentin Crisp and Tilda Swinton are insightful. Commenting on Crisp 'He is the true Queen of England', Potter humorously remarks. Tilda Swinton only cast member present and comments on her involvement in the project beginning in 1988, nearly three years before production.

This shows character oultine including quotations from the original text. Therefore, emphasising Potter's aim of remaining true to the 'essence' of the text. Focusing on characterisation of Orlando and gives character history, a key element of the novel, historiography.

This follow on from previous page, continuing with Orlando's character and Queen Elizabeth I. The description of the Queen quoted from the novel mentions in detail her hands and physical attributes. Potter has previously said Crisp looked like the Queen in her latter years.

This shows Tilda Swinton's both academic and performing background. It is interesting to see that she does not have a stereotypical mainstream Hollywood background but has worked with more experimental and theorist directors such as Derek Jarman and Peter Wollen.
